Active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) originated from the practical vision of pioneering control theorists including Qiang Xuesen, Guan Zhaozhi, and Han Jingqing, who emphasized that control theory must transcend mathematical modeling and engage with real-world applications. Han's foundational work reoriented the field toward direct disturbance rejection and system robustness without reliance on precise models. A major breakthrough came with bandwidth-based parameterization, which enabled backward compatibility with PID and facilitated intuitive tuning. This special issue presents research that further strengthens ADRC's theoretical and practical foundations—addressing phase margins, parameter tuning, discrete implementation, and connections to classical control theory. These contributions reflect ADRC's growing maturity and its promise to bridge theoretical innovation with engineering applicability.

It is our great pleasure and honor to organize this special issue “Frontiers of Control and Automation” in honor of the 60th birthday of our long-time colleague and friend Professor Ben M. Chen. Prof. Chen earned his Ph.D. in ECE from Washington State University (1991). He served at SUNY Stony Brook and National University of Singapore, and is now Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research evolved from linear control theory to unmanned systems and applications. An IEEE and CAA Fellow, he has authored hundreds of papers and ten monographs. This special issue, honoring his contributions, features 18 papers from collaborators and students, covering multi-agent systems, nonlinear control, AI-driven vehicles, and more.
本期专刊从陈教授的已毕业学生、博士后、合作者和朋友中邀请了18篇论文:论文1给出了基于半张量积的超矩阵压缩积运算及其性质;论文2给出了一种多玩家模仿学习算法;论文3引入了网络增益定理讨论了级联网络化系统的输入-状态稳定性;论文4提出了基于混合数据驱动的车辆轨迹预测算法;论文5讨论了异构多智能体系统的加权平均一致性问题;论文6提出了一种基于滑模的自适应管模型预测控制方法解决状态约束和不确定动力学的机械臂的最优跟踪控制问题;论文7讨论了一种新颖的反馈控制来研究两个随机耦合非线性系统之间的随机有限时间/固定时间同步问题;论文8讨论了耦合约束的网络博弈问题并给出了相应的算法;论文9利用李雅普诺夫的直接方法提出了一种鲁棒策略优化方法;论文10 针对类可逆离散切换线性系统提出了状态观测器设计方法;论文11探究了一类磁悬浮系统的分散式控制设计和合成;论文12解决了具有线性外部系统(exo-system)的线性多智能体系统的协同输出调节问题;论文13提出了一种基于深度学习的列车定位方法;论文14研究了具有规定性能的强单调非合作对策的纳什均衡(NE)寻求问题;论文15基于方位和角度测量制定了三个伪线性测量,建立了基于卡尔曼滤波和最小二乘估计的不同估计器;论文16提出了一种增益调度反馈控制器设计方法以驱动系统到期望的状态;论文17解决了联合连通切换网络下的一般离散时间线性多智能体系统的领导者跟随指数一致性问题;论文18提出了具有切换不确定性的多智能体系统基于数据驱动控制策略的一致性协议。

For over sixty years—since its emergence from time series analysis and the first IFAC symposium in 1967—system identification has remained a vibrant and essential research area within the control community. Its continued relevance lies in the growing need for mathematical models in engineering applications, often combining data-driven and physical modeling approaches. This issue highlights recent trends and advances across 16 papers, organized into three themes: theoretical developments (including subspace, kernel, and sparse methods), state estimation for stochastic, cyber-physical, and quantum systems, and practical applications such as unmanned vehicles and active noise control. These contributions offer valuable insights into the current state and future directions of the field.
本专刊共收录了16篇文章。这些文章被分为三个组别。第一组汇集了7篇系统辨识理论方面的文章,内容涉及计划与量化观测下的辨识、子空间辨识方法、正则化与核方法辨识以及稀疏辨识方法。第二组包含了5篇文章,包括随机系统、信息物理系统及量子系统的状态估计的文章。第三组则包含了4篇致力于将理论方法应用于实践的文章,包括无人驾驶水面航行器推进系统的建模、摄氧反应、球盘系统以及主动噪声控制系统。

This special issuehonors the 90th birthday of Professor Huashu Qin, a pioneering figure in control theory and applications in China. With a distinguished career spanning nonlinear dynamics, intelligent control, robotics, and complex systems, she has been recognized in IEEE Control Systems Magazine's “Women in Control.” After earning her Ph.D. in Mathematics in Poland in 1961, she contributed to key projects in missile guidance, satellite control, and industrial automation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research evolved from nonlinear bifurcation and robot control in the 1980s to complex system stabilization and power applications in the 1990s. Even in retirement, she remains active in multi-agent and nonlinear control research. This issue features 12 papers from her colleagues and students, covering topics such as multi-agent systems, distributed optimization, UAV cooperation, and nonlinear stabilization.
