6. Advancements for microbiome research in human health and disease: From composition to functionality

On June 22nd-25th, 2024, the 10th International Human Microbiome Consortium (IHMC) congress was successfully held in Rome, Italy, which aimed to promote an ever-increasing interchange between industrial and scientific partners, as well as to expand the number of participants from different study categories, and was chaired by Professor Alessio Fasano, a professor of Pediatrics and Nutrition, Harvard Medical School, and co-chaired by Professor Maria Vasile from the European Commission. The conference focused on important topics such as “The interaction of the human holobiont with other bionts” “Environmental factors influencing the human holobiont” “Oncobiome: A network introducing gut microbiota into oncology” and “Microbiome and cancer development”. This conference included themed presentations by 121 scholars and industry experts from over 30 countries around the world, which introduced their research topics and latest research achievements to the audience, and over 1000 scholars attended the event on-site.
