Dr. Yulong Li, a professor at the School   of Life Sciences, Peking University, is a researcher at the PKU-THU Center   for Life Sciences, IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU, New   Cornerstone Science Laboratory. He got his B.S. from Peking University and   his Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Duke University, followed by postdoctoral   research at Stanford University. Since 2012, he established his lab at Peking   University. His research centers on the ‘synapse’, the fundamental unit for   the communication between neurons. He carries two layers of research: first,   he develops cutting-edge research tools, namely advanced imaging probes, to   untangle the complexity of the nervous system in space and in time; second,   capitalizing on the advancement of research toolkits, he studies the   regulation of synaptic transmission, focusing on the modulation of   presynaptic transmitter release in health and disease conditions. His   research group has successfully developed a series of novel genetically   encoded optical probes called GPCR Activation-Based (GRAB) sensors for   imaging neuromodulators such as acetylcholine, monoamines, purines, lipids,   and neuropeptides. These probes have allowed, probably for the first time,   rapid, chemical- and cell-specific in vivo detection in multiple organisms   ranging from flies, zebrafish, and mice to songbirds.

Catriona MacCallum

Catriona MacCallum is Director, the   Future of Scholarly Research, at Wiley. She has 27 years experience in   scholarly publishing, including 22 years in Open Access Publishing.  She joined PLOS from Elsevier in 2003 to   launch PLOS Biology as a Senior Editor. She worked in a variety of roles,   including on PLOS ONE and left as Advocacy Director in 2017 to become   Director of Open Science at Hindawi before joining the Wiley team in 2021.   She is a member of the Board of OpenCitations, and a past member of the OASPA   Board, the DORA steering committee, the DRYAD Board and the Advisory Board of   the Royal Society (Publishing). She is a founding individual of the I4OC (Initiative   for Open Citations) and I4OA (Open Abstracts) campaigns. She was a member of   the European Commission’s Open Science Policy Platform (2017-2020). She has a   PhD in population genetics from Edinburgh University.

Richard Sever

Richard Sever is Chief Science and   Strategy Officer at openRxiv, the non-profit organization that runs the   preprint servers bioRxiv and medRxiv, which he co-founded. Richard obtained   his undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, graduating with 1st   Class honours in Biochemistry. He switched to Cambridge for his PhD,   researching gene regulation at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.   Richard then trained as an editor, working first at Current Opinion in   Cell Biology and then Trends in Biochemical Science. He later became   Executive Editor of Journal of Cell Science at The Company of   Biologists, where he played an important role developing their publication   program.

Richard joined Cold Spring Harbor   Laboratory in 2008 and was appointed Assistant Director of its press in 2012.   He launched the journals Cold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Biology   and Cold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Medicine, serving as Executive   Editor, alongside Cold Spring Harbor Protocols. He also edited several   books, including the textbook Signal Transduction and the handbook Career   Alternatives for Biomedical Scientists. Richard co-founded bioRxiv in   2013 and medRxiv in 2019 to allow scientists to share research much more   rapidly. The servers became essential resources for researchers and played   critical roles during the pandemic.

Richard is widely acknowledged as a   leading thinker in scientific communication. In 2022, he was awarded an   honorary doctorate from Cold Spring Harbor School of Biological Sciences in   recognition of his work, and in 2025 he was recognized by Time magazine in   their Time100 list of the most influential people in health. Richard was   awarded The Royal Society Research Culture Award in 2025 for outstanding work   in the improvement of the research system.
