In the present thesis, the Spartan-6 Industrial Video Processing Kit is examined, which contains four main projects. The Camera Frame Project which is tested is one of those projects. The main idea is the implementation of an image sensor capable of live streaming. Furthermore, all components of the hardware system and the IP cores in the video processing pipeline are also examined. The purpose of this thesis is the insertion of Canny Edge Detection algorithm in the processing pipeline. An IP core is designed to implement this algorithm in image components. The IP core is designed to be used in EDK of Xilinx. Due to the requirements of a grayscale input for this algorithm, the addition of the RGB to YCrCb and YCrCb to RGB converters is necessary. Finally, the inclusion of a XSVI bus duplicator and a multiplexer gives the system the option to choose between normal image and Canny image in the video stream. The usage of a FSL bus gives the system the capability to set values of high and low thresholds of Canny algorithm through terminal while the system is running. The results confirm the required operation of the system.
