You have seen that for the original problem,

the boat nearly never reture to its initial place,

how far from it will depend on the initial condition.

If for example, you want the boat away for '10' meters,

you can do so by giving some variables 'particular values',

but it is very hard to choose values that will give exact return.

However, if you really want to do so, 

you need 'reverse-engineering' it.

10 meters is for illustration, not only 10 meters,

any length longer than 10 meters are possible 

for this purpose.

Now, a concrete example will show the result.

Suppose the masses of the boat and man are 

equal and the man jump at the front for 5 meters

with k reaching zero. the boat will stop behind

for 5 meters. If you reduce the boat mass, the

distance will increase poportionally.

This is possible by using light alloy and making

the boat long and deep enough.

Computationally, this increment can reach any

value.
