BIS effective exchange rate indices http://www.bis.org/statistics/eer/
updated 15 January 2015
The BIS effective exchange rate (EER) indices now cover 61 economies (including individual euro area countries and, separately, the euro area as an entity). The most recent weights are based on trade in 2008-10 and the indices' base year is 2010.
Two basket compositions are available:
Broad indices comprising 61 economies, with data from 1994 (CSV or Excel)
Narrow indices comprising 27 economies, with data from 1964 (CSV or Excel)
Nominal EERs are calculated as geometric weighted averages of bilateral exchange rates. Real EERs are the same weighted averages of bilateral exchange rates adjusted by relative consumer prices. The weighting pattern is time-varying, and the most recent weights are based on trade in 2008-10 (see broad and narrow weights). The EER indices are available as monthly averages.
For an explanation of the methodology behind the BIS EER indices, see:
The new BIS effective exchange rate indices, BIS Quarterly Review, March 2006
Measuring international price and cost competitiveness, BIS Economic Papers, no 39, November 1993
The monthly effective exchange rate data will be released mid-month on a monthly basis.

Updated Data 1958-2009 - SIC and NAICS versions
Original February 2013; Revised June 2013 (re-allocating grouped ASM industries post-2002)
This database is a joint effort between the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and U.S. Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies (CES), containing annual industry-level data from 1958-2009 on output, employment, payroll and other input costs, investment, capital stocks, TFP, and various industry-specific price indexes. Because of the change from SIC to NAICS industry definitions in 1997, the database is provided in two versions: one with 459 four-digit 1987 SIC industries and the other with 473 six-digit 1997 NAICS industries.
We ask that you please not forward this data on to others. Instead, please refer interested parties to this website. This ensures that everyone receives the latest version of the data that's available.
