在上世纪90年代,世界科研秩序任然井井有条。尽管没有现在发达的网络和网络应用,但这丝毫不影响科研人员的科研进展,相反比现在的浮燥科研強很多。论文除了正常的会议和期刊发表外,在投出去前还常常有自己单位的Technical Reports (TR)。科研人员有不少会先把自己的TR hardcopy 邮寄给同行。这有点像现在上传到arXiv 上的预行本,只是尽管arXiv1991年就有了,在整个90年代,大多科研人员还不知道或者熟悉。

我自己到了特拉华大学ECE系后,在90年代的所有论文都有TR, Udel-ECE Technical Report,尽管邮寄给同行的很少。整个90年代也是我自己的科研黄金年代,印了很多TR。其中vector OFDM (VOFDM)首先/最早出现的也是Udel-ECE TR, 它的序号是Technical Report Udel-ECE 99-4-1, 如下图所示,在19994月成文【1】,到现在整26年了。 然后VOFDM发表在 20006月的ICC会议论文集上【2】, 20018月的IEEE Trans. on Com.【3】,还出现在2000年我出版的书《Modulated Coding for Interference Channels》(Marcel Dekker, 现在属于CRC)里【4】。

有意思的是,后来出现的OSDM 【5】 A-OFDM 【6】,和OTFS 【7】都与早前的 VOFDM 等价【8,9】。遗憾的是近期OTFS/VOFDM被误认为对时频双选信道有什么特别应对之处了,【11,12,13,14】。
