中英翻譯，不論是英譯中，還是中譯英，都大多是吃力不討好，倒不如整篇翻譯。如
賈島的“尋隱者不遇”
松下問童子，
言師採藥去，
只在此山中，
雲深不知處。
整篇翻譯為 Carl Sandburg的Fog

意思當然差得很遠。但不失為一樂。
另如Robert Frost的

The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake

回首向來蕭瑟處，

缺月掛疏桐，

驚起卻回頭，
有恨無人省，
揀盡寒枝不肯棲，
寂寞沙洲冷。
其實這首卜算子也可對應Carl Sandburg的Fog。
