Another advanatage one emjoys living at a CCRC sucxh as Brookhaven is the periodic offers of showeing great but old movies on site every a couple of days in the evening after dinner. Two great but old movies which I have seen several time were shown recently and I get to watch it again . They are:
Casablanca. This number one rated balck-and-white movie made in 1942 by the AMEWRICA FILM INSTITUTE about the days just just before WWII is characterised by its haunting love song " . . . it is dtill the same old story. A fight for love and glory . . . .". The eternal love triangle between two men and a woman, heroism and sacrifice , all cut deeply into human emotion. It was the foruth time I watched the movie and it still sends chills up my spine. Having lived through WWII as a child, I believe I feel about the movie differtently than the youth of today.
Rear window. This is one of the early Grace Kelley movies before she became a princess and famous. It is about lives in an apartment block in New Yotk City during the growth phase of the American century after 1950s. Lives are good and optimisn abound. but a murder occured. Again I lived through the times and appreciated the film differently than people today. I watched it for the third time here and again brought back memories
Noistagia is great!
