The Chinese title of the this blog above translated into English says: The scene of a setting sun is so beautiful except the duration is so short. This is just another example of the 80-20 rule which says that if your life is 80% perfect, we need the other 20% to keep you in perspective. 100% perfect lives can become boring quickly. This can be said for my current life (it is near perfect):
1. Both my wife and I are still healthy at 91.5 and 89.9 resepctively.
2.,The CCRC we are living in takes care of everything with one meal/day and one bill per month that covers everyrhing. There are plenty of activities (lecture, concert or entertainment) everynight under the same roof without the probelm of going out, find parking, purchsing/scheduling tickets, et al.
3. excellent health care on site.
4. All three of our children are financially independent and successful with no problems of their own and each do their best to look after us.
5. all grand children have finished college and gainfully employed. They create no problem for us and their parents.
6. We even have one 3 year old great grand child -fulfilling the Chinese blessing of 4 generations alive together.
7. We have saved enough via fugel habits in earlier life to not worry about outliving our assets. We started with nothing as teenagers some 70 years ago and did everything on our own. No apologies except for taking advantages of the freedom and opportunities available in the US.
Thus, our lives are a perfect example of the title of this blog. We fully realize that our future is vert finite and must enjoy whatever remains even though selfishly we wish they can be a bit longer.
