Social and medical professions have long known that human being is a social animal. Except for a very small percent of the human spcies, Long term isolation and solitude are not healthy for the mental and physical survival of a human being. On the other hand, for most of the population, we spent some 70-80% of our daily time either in our home of in our work place which are denoted as the "First Place" and "Second PLace" of our lives. However, neither the 1st nor the 2nd place are conducive to general "social interactions" with others. Growth of entertainment media, the pandemic of Covid-19,  and remote home working further accentuated the decearses in general social interactions of an individual.

So, how do we generally get "social interactions"? In olden times in China, it is the "tea houses" or more recently  "group physical exercises" as often seen on TV. In Europe, it is the "pub" or "Local Coffee Houses". In the US, we gather around "Starbuck" , "Dunkin Donut" or "MacDonalds". For the retired or the lower income groups of the population, the lack of social ineraction can be particularly severe. This also partially explains the growth of "Continuous Care Rtirement Communities or CCRCs" (like the one we currently reside.). Thus, the problem of "The Third Place" which is the title opf this article arises.as a societal problem for government to address. So far there are no universial solutions and is a general problem worth paying attention to..
