今天收邮件，看到ISKO推送的一条信息，文献分类和信息检索领域的一位大牛——Brian Vickery（维克利）于2009年10月17日去世了，享年91岁。


B.C. 维克利是现代主题标引理论的先驱者，50年前他提出了主题标引规则的重要性，认为“标引的不同技巧在于形式，在于应用的主题分析原则方法。每一种形式都有自己特有的优点和使用的领域，很多著作都需要定义适当的领域，在该领域每一种技巧都是可以应用的。如果我们首先认清应用的原则，那么这种评价将更容易些”。（转引自：Alberto Cheti, Anna Lucarelli, Federica Paradisi. 刘华梅译. 意大利的主题标引：最新进展和未来展望）
