The goal of General Education (GE) is to give you a broad sampling of different academic areas. This sampling exposes you to varied disciplines, increasing the value and breadth of your total undergraduate education. GE allows you to discover new interests that may open a whole new range of opportunities for further study or career choice.

Intended Learning Outcomes of GE
On completion a GE course, students will be able to:
i) apply intellectual and practical skills to learning
ii) relate to diversity in terms of people and cultures
iii) apply a broader knowledge of the natural and physical world to their own experiences
iv) generate the capacity to assume individual and social responsibilities
v) generate the capacity for lifelong learning
The GE Programme is an interval part of the 4-year degree curriculum designed to produce Ideal Graduates for 2016 and beyond.

三、通识教育的要求(GE Requirements)

The curriculum structure of the 4-year degree comprises a minimum of 120 credit units for graduation requirement. Of these 120 units, all students must fulfil at least 30 units of GE courses, with the balance to be fulfilled by major, minor and free electives. General Education consists of two parts – university requirements applicable to all students regardless of their majors, and college/school requirements. The GE university requirements include 6 credit units of ‘English’ and 3 credit units of ‘Chinese Civilisation – History and Philosophy’. The GE college/school distributional requirements include 21 credit units where students take a minimum of 3 credit units from each of the three GE areas of ‘Arts and Humanities’, ‘Study of Societies, Social and Business Organisations’, and ‘ Science and Technology’.

Before 2012/13, all bachelor degree students have to take at least 3 credit units of GE courses to fulfill the Out-of-discipline (OOD) requirement.
Starting from 2012/13, all students must fulfill at least 30 units of GE. General Education consists of two parts:
