Recruitment Context and Institution Strategy

Centrale Lille is a public scientific, cultural and professional institution external to universities, comprising four internal engineering schools: école Centrale de Lille, école Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille, IG2I and ITEEM. Centrale Lille also offers national master's degrees, including some entirely taught in English, and doctorates. Centrale Lille has more than 2,100 students, 180 PhD students, 228 teachers, teaching researchers and researchers, and 152 non-teaching staff.

The institution is located on 2 campuses: in Villeneuve d’Ascq and Lens. It is joint supervisor of seven research laboratories with the University of Lille, including six joint research units with CNRS, and several joint teams with Inria Lille - Nord Europe.

Centrale Lille is a member of two networks boasting particularly dynamic international activity: Groupe des écoles Centrale (GEC) and Fédération Gay-Lussac (FGL). As such, it is a stakeholder in several engineering schools with establishments abroad: in China, Morocco and India. Centrale Lille is also a member of the T.I.M.E. Association (Top International Managers in Engineering).

Committed to the quality of its courses, Centrale Lille has initiated major changes and isdiversifying its teaching methods. It is particularly aiming to develop the self-reliance of its engineering students and strengthen graduate skills across all the courses. Centrale Lille contributes to taking the research and commercialisation activities carried out at the site in Lille to the highest international level. It develops research, commercialisation and innovation activities in the fields of engineering and science. In five years, the institution has doubled the budget granted to research units and teaching researchers or researchers.

Building on this environment, the strategy implemented by Centrale Lille aims to strengthen its position as a major player in engineering training and research through the development of the institution’s courses, particularly in engineering, and its research, commercialisation and innovation activities. This reflects the ambition to increase both its attractiveness and recognition, particularly at international level and in the economic world. In the medium term, Centrale Lille aims to become an international institution and a recognised player in innovation, particularly by supporting start-ups created by its engineering students or based on research.

Developing relationships with businesses is a priority for the institution, especially through the creation of chairs, collaborative projects, innovation projects and rewarding partnerships.

Its positioning and activity in training and research should further the development of institutional cooperation initiatives with leading international universities for the benefit of all the students and research stakeholders. The institution’s international ambitions translate into a proactive policy of growth for its students, teaching researchers and international researchers.

The recruitments carried out by Centrale Lille aim to support its strategy in order to achieve these goals.

Establishment strategy concerning the Junior Professor Chair

This Junior Professor Chair project is part of Centrale Lille's strategy to strengthen the excellence of its research, cultivate its specificities and boost the interdisciplinary synergy of its research and training. Based on the work undertaken in recent years and on the excellence of health research at the Lille site, Centrale Lille has made health engineering a key strategic focus, both in training and in research, which must be able to differentiate it and increase its visibility on the national and international scenes. In research, this project is positioned at the crossroads of the societal challenge “Health & Well-being” and the strategic axis “Micro-Nano-Sciences & Systems” of its scientific policy. It also enriches the interdisciplinarity of engineering teaching, particularly in biology and health, and amplifies the training-research links of its engineering training, masters and Graduate Programs (SFRI/Grael de l'ISITE), but also final-year courses in creation at the engineering/health interface. Finally, this chair reinforces the CPER TECSANTE and the Health Technologies and Medicines Federation (TSM).

Research project

Laboratory:

IEMN - Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology – UMR 8520 / AIMAN team from Centrale Lille

Description of the project:

The person recruited within the framework of this Junior Professor Chair will have the task of participating in the development of a recent activity at Centrale Lille at the interface between micro-nano-technologies, engineering, on the one hand, and biology and health, on the other hand. The challenges targeted are to provide solutions to transform the current diagnosis and therapy follow-up paradigms towards "early diagnosis made accessible to as many people as possible" and "non-invasive and real-time personalized treatment follow-up", with the aim to achieve precision medicine applicable to all.

More specifically, it will be a question of developing breakthrough integrated micro-laboratories (for example miniaturized electronic noses and tongues on a patch that can be worn without discomfort and without risk by patients), combining networks of nano-sensors associated with specific functionalizations making it possible to achieve the sensitivities and selectivities necessary for the detection and monitoring of the complex biophysical and biochemical signatures of innovative biomarkers (for example biomarkers characteristic of tumours) and their evolution during treatments.

This chair will be in continuous interaction with Lille biologists and clinicians to 1) integrate the most promising biomarkers (for example volatile organic compounds from biofluids, or exosomes from biopsies in liquid media), 2) develop innovative tumor models (for example 3D in vitro culture of organoids from human tissues) for a rapid and systematized study of changes in the signatures of biomarkers associated with tumor responses, and 3) to carry out the clinical evaluation of the devices in compliance with the ethical framework.

Mixed "microtechnology - engineering - biology" profiles are particularly sought after.

Teaching profile

Pedagogical team:

Electronics, Waves and Sensors dependent on the two teaching departments "Electronics, Electrotechnics and Automation (EEA)" and "Chemistry and MAtière (CMA)"

At the interface of micro-nano-technologies, engineering, biology and health, this chair will strengthen and enrich several training courses at Centrale Lille and the Lille site through totally interdisciplinary teaching. The recruited person will in particular provide lessons related to the research part of the position in the field of micro-nano-technologies, sensors, instrumentation, and signal processing for medical applications.

By relying heavily on the research component of the chair, this will include participating in the emergence of a "Smart & Precision Health" axis i) within the last year's theme "Intelligent Systems and Environments" of the Ecole Centrale de Lille, ii) the international master's "Biomedical Engineering" dedicated to the attractiveness of talented foreign students and addressing Very High Technology Medical Devices, iii) the M2 master's course "Emergent Technologies" co -accredited between Centrale Lille and the University of Lille, which is also part of the Graduate Program “Information and Knowledge Society” of ISITE ULNE. This chair will also contribute to the implementation of the new course for the final year of the Ecole Centrale de Lille in partnership with the Faculty of Health of the University of Lille at the Engineering-Health interface. Conversely, this chair could enrich the Graduate Program “Precision Health” of ISITE Lille. The Chair will thus contribute to expanding student populations at the engineering-health interface.

Given the context of the establishment and the missions entrusted to it, it must have significant experience both in terms of academic collaborations, and in terms of responsibilities or participation in industrial research contracts. She must also demonstrate an aptitude for working in interdisciplinary teams essential to the engineering training provided by Centrale Lille and a pronounced appetite for active pedagogies and training activities based on a project activity.

The teaching volume will be 64 hours ETD during the tenure period.

Remuneration and amount of associated funding

The holder of the Junior Professor Chair will receive a gross annual salary of
