Dear Transboundary Groundwater Colleagues,
I am writing to ask that you consider submitting a paper to a Special Issue of the journal Water (ISSN 2073-4441, IF 2.544) entitled "Advances in Transboundary Aquifer Assessment". I am guest editing this Special Issue along with Dr. Anne-Marie Matherne of the U.S. Geological Survey.
The need to feed and support the world’s growing population has placed a spotlight on the world’s underground freshwater resources. As groundwater use increases globally, there is growing recognition that critical to sound groundwater management is a detailed understanding of aquifer conditions. Of special consideration is aquifer assessment in a transboundary setting, where cooperation of multiple jurisdictions, sometimes with different languages and cultures, is required. This Special Issue of Water invites papers reporting on transboundary aquifer assessment research. We invite papers that describe aquifers, groundwater availability and quality, and water use. Integrated studies, including modeling, that incorporate various aspects of the hydrologic system and/or socioeconomic conditions are welcomed. We also invite papers analyzing relevant institutional issues and mechanisms for cooperation, which could serve as the foundation for collaboration extending to management of transboundary groundwater
Papers may submitted any time between now and April 1, 2021. Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. More information about the process for submitting papers can be found at the Special Issue website. Papers will be published on an ongoing basis. Should 10 or more papers be accepted for publication, a book version of the Special Issue will be published.
Water is one of MDPI's open access journals. It is indexed in *SCIE* and has the Impact Factor 2.544. An article processing charge (APC) of 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs) applies to papers accepted after peer review. We have a very limited number of waivers to offer authors with a history of publishing in this area and discounts to offer emerging professionals. Please note that many universities have special funds for open access fees and such fees can often be covered by grant funds. We encourage interested authors to send a short abstract or tentative title to the Editorial Office (mijanovic@mdpi.com) and the Guest Editors.
We hope that you will favorably consider collaborating with us. Kindly forward this call for papers to colleagues as appropriate.
On behalf of the Guest Editors and Water’s Editorial Staff,
Sharon B. Megdal, Ph.D.
