Nobel Prize in Physics
Dear Louxin,
We are delighted and proud to announce that Donna Strickland, Associate Professor in Physics and Astronomy, has won the Nobel Prize in Physics for her research in the field of laser physics.
Professor Strickland is the first member of the University of Waterloo community to be honoured with a Nobel Prize, and the first woman in 55 years to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics. Her work has paved the way toward the shortest and most intense laser pulses created by humankind.
As a scientific innovator, Professor Strickland exemplifies everything our University stands for, and it is because of faculty members like her that Waterloo continues to garner international respect and admiration.
As a member of the University of Waterloo community, I hope you will celebrate this tremendous day with Professor Strickland and us, and share this news on Twitter and Facebook with your friends, family, and colleagues around the world. This is an amazing moment for fundamental science, women in STEM, and Canada.
Sincerely,
Feridun Hamdullahpur
President and Vice-Chancellor
