∮1 德国哈茨山区(The Harz)

位于德国北方的哈茨山区(The Harz)横跨下萨克森(Lower Saxony)、萨克森-安哈尔特 (Saxony-Anhalt)和图林根 (The Free State of Thuringia)三州。该地区出露泥盆纪、石炭纪和二叠纪等剖面。

德国律师和古植物学家August Wilhelm Stiehler (1797--1878)于1797年出生于萨克森-安哈尔特州的Neumarkt (Neumarkt, Saxony-Anhalt)。

1815—1819年，August Wilhelm Stiehler 在莱比锡大学(Universität Leipzig)学习法律。1820--1858年，August Wilhelm Stiehler 开始供职于哈茨山区的Wernigerode政府管理机构，长达38年。期间，他于1841年组建了哈茨自然科学协会。19世纪40年代中期，August Wilhelm Stiehler 开始研究产自哈茨地区的晚古生代植物化石。他的古植物学代表作有：

Stiehler, AugustWilhelm, 1857. Beitrage zur Kenntniss der vorweltlichen Flora desKreidegebirges im Harze : Palaeontographica, Band 5, p. 47-70, pis. 9-11.

1858年，August Wilhelm Stiehler 退休，到哈茨山地北麓的Quedlinburg小镇安度晚年。1878年去世，享年81岁。
