Lives under the Pandemic (3)
it is time to reflect on this past extraordinary year.
1. The second warmest year in recorded meteorological history
2. In our personal lives:
a. I did not have occasion to wear a suit or sport jacket all year due to the pandemic quarantine.
b. I survive a serious illness that took two months (Feb. and March) to recover http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-1227476.html , http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-1216511.html .
c. Except for zoom meetings we did not meet face-to-face with the other members of our immediate family.
d. We had a 30-inch diameter tree split by thunder and crashed onto our house causing extensive damage http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-1244738.html .
e. I did not go to any parties or gathering with friends except occasional 2 or 3 person meeting in outdoor settings.
f. We voted by mail in all elections of 2020.
g. Our local younger friends helped us with grocery shopping and/or brought us food. Thus, we seldom go to supermarkets unless absolutely necessary
h. We do both walking and brain exercises and ended 2020 both still healthy, engaged, and alert for which we are grateful.
i. As readers of my blog know that I am a food lover. But I know next to nothing about how to cook except perhaps boiling an egg. But during this quarantine and pandemic, I learned out of boredom to make (1) a fancy dipping sauce for meat/vegetable, (2) Stratta - a special Austrian breakfast dish that is really good for anytime. Similarly, my wife has taken an interest in food recipes for which she begin to cook all kinds new dishes. The side benefit of course pleases me immensely.
