May2-May 8

(MAY 2-SATURDAY): In the morning, must of the time was spent resting. At night, I designed the experimental program.

(MAY 3-SUNDAY) MUCH OF THE TIME WAS spent continuing to design the experimental program.

(MAY 4-MONDAY) It was again the day for lab meeting. So I rode the electrical scooter to the campus and I arrived within 40 minutes. I presented my experimental schemes at the lab meeting and had some feedback from Andy and some lab members such as Robin, Matt and Andrew. I planned to do three experiments, but it seems Andy wanted to choose the most promising one as a start. I just hoped to begin collecting data as soon as possible. In the evening I came to Covell Building to attend the discussion with some international students and Americans. This time the topic was food and I was happy to have a taste of the cake made by the discussion facilitator, who is a Vietnamese American growing up in California. The cake just tasted so delicious...

(MAY 5-TUESDAY) MUCH OF TODAY WAS SPENT IN DESIGNING THE EXPERMENTAL PROGRAM...IN FACT A TOTAL OF 7 HOURS WAS USED FOR THIS TASK...ALSO I SPENT SOME TIME ON THE MANUSCRIPT. IN THE EVENING I WENT TO THE LAWN AND DID SOME RUNNING FOR EXERCISE...

(MAY 6-WEDNESDAY) IN THE MORNING, FRED ASKED IF I WANTED TO GO SHOPPING. I AGREED AND SO HE DROVE ME TO A GROCERY STORE, WHERE I BOUGHT SOME VEGETABLES AND RICE FOR THE COMING WEEK. THEN I RETURNED AND SPENT MUCH OF THE DAY ON THE EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNING. SPECIFICALLY, I WORKED ON IT FOR 8 HOURS!

(MAY 7-THURSDAY) IN THE MORNING I SPENT SOME TIME MAKIN G COMMENTSON JINLEILEIS GRADUATION THESIS AND AT NOON I WENT OUT TO THE LAWN FOR EXERCISE FOR 30 MINUTES. THEN I SPENT SEVERAL HOURS ON THE EXPERMENTAL PROGRAM. UNLIKE THE PRIOR DAYS I HAD DINNER AT AOUT 19:00, BECAUSE I WANTED TO START TO DEVELOP THE HABT OF GOING TO SLEEP EARLIER...AND ANYWAY I WAS IN BED BEFORE THE MIDNIGHT...

(MAY 8-FRIDAY) THIS MORNING I GOT UP BEFORE 7 AM! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I GOT UP SO EARLY SINCE I CAME TO DAVIS...MORE IMPORTANT I FELT ENERGETIC! SO IT IS OBVIOUS THAT SLEEPING EARLY IS INDEED A WISE CHOICE THAT IS WORTH STICKING TO. I RODE THE SCOOTER TO THE CAMPUS AND ARRIVED AT ANDYS OFFICE ABOUT 11:00. HIS WIFE WAS THERE WHEN I CAME IN, BUT SOON SHE LEFT. HOW I ENCY THEM--A COUPLE WORKING IN THE SAME DEPARTMENT WHO CAN VISIT EACH OTHER DURING WORK TIME....

THEN WE STARTED TO TALK ABOUT THE RESEARCH. HE SHOWED ME AN ARTICLE AND I DEMONSTRATED THE EPRIME PROGRAM TO HIM. IT SEEMS THAT HE WAS GENERALLY SATISFIED WITH MY WORK. THEN ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER SOMEONE CAME IN AND I LFET HIS OFFICE. I WILL COME DOWN IN 20 MINUTES.. SAID ANDY. SO I WENT INTO HUMAN MEMORY LAB AND WAITED FOR HIM TO ARRIVE. AND ARRIVE HE DID, AND DISCUSS WITH ME AND MATT ABOUT THE EXPERIEMENT.

I HAD MY LUNCH IN THE COFFEE HOUSE IN THE MEMORIAL UNION AND THEN WANT OUT FOR A WALK ON THE SHINY LAWN...PEOPLE WERE LYING THERE FOR RELAXATION FOR ENJOYMENT OF THE SUNSHINE...THEN I WALKED TO A ROADSIDE SHOP WHERE HANSMADE SOAPS WERE SOLD. I HAD NEVER SEEN THIS KIND OF STUFF BEFORE..AND I WAS CURIOUS. LAST I BOUGHT ONE SHAMPOO SOAP WITH 5.38 DOLLARS. BY THE WAY THE SELLER SAID TO MEYOUR ENGLISH IS GOOD!... WELL, I WAS HAPPY TO HEAR THIS ALTHOUGH THIS I HAD HEARD MANY TIMES.

THEN I RODE THE SCOOTER BACK HOME, STARTED TO MAKE DINNER, CHATTED WITH MY DEAREST BROTHER, SHOWED HIM SOME PICTURES I TOOK, TOOK A BATH, HAD THE DINNER, HOPPED INTO BED, READ SOME ARTICLES FOR AN HOUR BEFORE PREPARING MYSELF FOR SLEEP...
