PhD Research Fellowship in New Concepts in Thermoelectrics
Date: 21-Mar-2014 12:42
Message: The position is associated with the Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology and Department of Physics, University of Oslo.
Job description
The successful candidate will investigate new concepts to elevate the efficiency of thermoelectric materials. More specifically, the candidate will develop numerical model to calculate the transport properties across multi-layered materials with appropriate scattering mechanisms. The developed model will be used to investigate possible ways to lower the Lorenz number (decoupling of the heat and charge transported by the electrons). Furthermore, the results from the model will be compared to experimental transport property measurements based molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) grown samples. The candidate will be part of a solid team of scientific staff, post docs and students performing first-principle calculations and conceptual developments on the atomic level in order to improve or discover functional materials. Also, this candidate will be part of the large nationally coordinated project on thermoelectric materials – THELMA.
The position is a part of the project “Thermoelectric materials: nanostructuring for improving the energy efficiency of thermoelectric generators and heat-pumps” (THELMA) which brings together research groups from the universities of Oslo (UiO; Dept of Chemistry and Dept of Physics), Trondheim (NTNU), Agder (UiA), and Stavanger (UiS), as well from the Norwegian research institutes SINTEF, IFE, and FFI. A broad international collaboration further enriches the project. Five PhD Research Fellowships and four Postdoctoral Research Fellowships will be announced during 2014-15, and all together about 30 researchers and PhD candidates are directly involved in the project.
The fellowship is for a period of up to 3 years. Starting date no later than 1 October, 2014. Deadline for application is 1 May, 2014.
