This month's Research of the Month is "Aboriginal mitogenomes reveal 50,000 years of regionalism in Australia" published in March 2017 by researchers from the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA (ACAD) at the University of Adelaide in Nature. In this study, the authors reconstruct Australian phylogeographic history before European settlement by analysing mitochondrial genomes from aboriginal hair samples. The paper was mentioned in 39 news stories from outlets such as BBC News and Gizmodo as well as being mentioned in 13 blog posts and over 500 tweets.
