CharlesDickens的第十部作品，Hard Times。

MrGradgrind—办学者。很有学问，grad--相当于大学或研究生毕业吧。Grind--碾压，粉碎孩子的一切梦幻。他强调facts和figures；事实，事实！数字，数字！

Mr M’Choakumchild—优秀教师，学富五车，才高八斗。Choke--憋死；child--孩子。这个名字一目了然；紧跟校长，两个凡是，决心消灭学生的一切wonder和fancy。

Mr Bounderby—bound，束缚，局限，脑子一根筋。校长的朋友和帮凶。

故事开场不久就对优秀教师做了形象的描述：

He went to work inthis preparatory lesson, not unlike Morgiana in the Forty Thieves:looking into all the vessels ranged before him, one after another, to see whatthey contained. Say, good M’Choakumchild. When from thy(their) boiling store,thou(you) shalt fill each jar brim full by-and-by, dost(did) thou think thatthou wilt always kill outright the robber Fancy lurking within or sometimesonly maim him and distort him!

他就像四十大盗中的Morgiana，逐个检查孩子脑壳中装了什么。如果脑中潜藏了幻想这个强盗，立即废了它。

一个半世纪以前的故事，依然值得学习，贯彻执行。
