孩子们被教导去背诵事实、遵循规则、为职业做准备,但他们很少被引导去思考、去好奇、去生活。我们常把信息误认为理解,把训练误认为智慧。

我读过许多伟大的书籍——荷马、孔子、莎士比亚——其中蕴含的丰富远非任何制度所能复制。但我也从林间的寂静、鸟的飞翔、冬日的静默中获得了深刻的教益。自然,是比任何教授都更深邃的导师。

我们不应将教育与从众混为一谈。最卓越的思想,往往来自那些敢于游离、敢于质疑、不愿被塑造的人。我宁愿独自静坐,读一本好书,也不愿被千本未读的书籍包围。

智识,如同身体,需要锻炼——不是为了炫耀,而是为了力量。我们读书,不是为了取悦他人,而是为了唤醒自己。我们学习,不是为了晋升,而是为了灵魂的深化。
