China Scholarship Council (CSC)

The University of Newcastle (UON) is ranked in thetop 3 per cent of universities in the world, according to two globalindependent ranking systems.

UON is a research-intensive university which has a vibrant research culture and registers on the global stage through collaboration with research peers, industry, government and the community. Ourresearch centres bring together our top researchers and promote cross-facultyand cross-disciplinary research to achieve research outcomes that havesignificant impact on society - nationally and internationally.

UON has an agreement with the ChinaScholarship Council (CSC) to enrol PhD candidates funded by the CSC.  CSC candidates are highly valued by theUniversity and recognised as being high achievers.  The University offers all CSC PhD scholarshipholders:

  • a tuition fee scholarship for four years

  • a Dell laptop computer

  • research related costs of AUD1,500 per year

  • a living allowance scholarship of approximately AUD5,449 p.a. (2015 rate) to top up the CSC scholarship to the standard Australian PhD scholarship rate

  • the opportunity to join our cultural connections program, available to all international students to develop friendships and learn about Australian customs and share

The next steps:

  1. Express your interest in doing a PhD at the University of Newcastle.  We will help you to find a supervisor and provide you with information relevant to CSC applicants.  We will also remind you of key dates in the process.

  2. Visit our web pages.

  3. Think about your research topic.  Our research proposal template may be useful as a guide.

  4. Discuss your ideas with a potential supervisor at the University of Newcastle.  Search for supervisors in your area of interest.

  5. Register and apply for admission.  You will need the following documents and information as part of your application submission:

    1. Official translations in English of your Bachelor degree/s including transcripts

    2. Official translations in English of your Master's degree/s including transcripts

    3. Your IELTS test results

    4. Your curriculum vitae

    5. Evidence of any publications you have authored

    6. Your research proposal

    7. The name of your potential supervisor/s at the University of Newcastle

    8. Please include "CSC Applicant" at the scholarship question so that we can fast track your application.


Eligibilityrequirements

  • IELTS of 6.5 overall with each subtest of at least 6.0 (for PhD programs in School of Health Sciences, the School of Nursing and Midwifery or the School of Medicine and Public Health the overall IELTS score required is 7.0 with each subtest of at least 6.0).

  • You must be a citizen and permanent resident of the People's Republic of China at the time of application and not be working or studying abroad.

  • You will require an offer of admission from the University of Newcastle before you apply to the CSC for scholarship.
