孙武不但是我国古代杰出的军事家和军事理论家，还是当之无愧的哲学家和思想家。孙武投奔吴国后，与伍子胥共同辅佐吴王经国治军，西破强楚、北威齐晋、南服越人，建功立业显名诸侯。其所著的《孙子兵法》被誉为“智慧之书”“兵学圣典”“世界古代第一兵书”。孙武也被后人推崇为“兵圣”“兵学鼻祖”。
孙武祠，又称孙子祠或沪渎侯祠，坐落于苏州城西虎丘山东山浜内，于清嘉庆十一年（1806）由清代经学家、乾隆探花、孙武七十五世孙孙星衍购得一榭园后而建，后于咸丰十年至同治二年（1860～1863年），祠堂毁于战火。1984年又重建。
孙武祠景区新建孙武祠建筑群、孙武阁，辅以广场、道路和绿化。景区整体建筑采用传统工艺进行木结构营造，再现了苏州地区传统建筑风貌。其中，孙武祠共三进，建有石牌坊、门厅、石板桥、过厅、享堂、东西碑廊、厢房及院落等。孙武祠西侧是孙武苑广场，堆有黄石假山。在植物搭配上，依据历史文献记载，着重考虑“意境”的创造与烘托，同时兼顾“胜镜”、“画境”的营建。祠内种植白皮松、广玉兰等常绿树，孙武苑中则以银杏、白玉兰等乡土树种为主，体现庄重肃穆的景观效果，表达祭祀、纪念之意。
