One hundred years ago this month, the world learned of a stunning disaster — the "unsinkable" Titanic had slipped beneath the waves, taking 1,500 souls with it.

 

Even before its doomed voyage, Titanic was famous as the newest and most opulent ocean liner of its day. Built in Northern Ireland, Titanic was the pride of Belfast.

 

Back then, 5,000 workers toiled three years to build the Titanic. They were shipbuilding artists, and when the Titanic hit bottom, something in the spirit of Belfast sank as well.

 

But the city of Belfast has moved to reclaim its heritage, and last weekend an interactive museum opened on the very site the Titanic was built.
