Abstract

In this work, (Fe75Mo5P13C7)100-xBx (x=0.3, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 at.%) bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) with a diameter of 1.5 mm were successfully prepared by low purity industrial raw materials and copper mold casting. The thermal characteristics and the mechanical properties were systematically investigated. We revealed a correlation between the thermal characteristics and the mechanical properties. In particular, we found that a low glass transition temperature and a low activation energy of glass transition are generally associated with a high plasticity at room temperature. Our findings would provide a novel insight into understanding and designing high performance Fe-based BMGs from the perspective of thermal behaviors.
