Finding the right journal for your paper in a timely fashion can be a major stressor when it comes to scientific publishing. The Cell Press Community platform aims to help your paper find the right home by considering it simultaneously at several journals of your choice, which increases the likelihood it will be formally peer reviewed at Cell Press, reduces serial rounds of reviews and serial rejections, and decreases the time it takes to publish your work with Cell Press.

With the Cell Press Community, all the Cell Press life and health science journals of your choice provide unified consideration of your manuscript via one handling editor who works closely with you, your chosen journals’ editorial teams, and expert reviewers from the field to help you navigate a path to publication with Cell Press.

Cell Press Community editors are your ambassadors for Cell Press and will evaluate your manuscript with an eye for where it might fit across the Cell Press family of life and health science journals. Your editor will consider your paper for the two or more journals you selected when you submitted, as well as for broadscope open access journals like Cell Reports, iScience, and Cell Reports Medicine. If your paper is more suitable for a Cell Press Community journal not selected by you, your editor will discuss these options with you.
Your paper will be considered at multiple Cell Press journals simultaneously using the same review process. A Cell Press editor will provide publication options for you across the Cell Press family of life and health science journals in consultation with peer reviewers and the editors of the journals you choose to be considered for. We will work with you to identify and navigate a path to publication aligned with your resources, needs, and preferences.

When your manuscript is sent out for peer review, your editor will invite external experts familiar with the respective communities each of your selected journals represents to review the manuscript. Reviewers are provided with a structured reviewer form to help guide discussions with editors and co-reviewers on potential revision paths for the manuscript. Your editor will provide multiple options for you based on the reviews, their evaluation of the manuscript, and consultation with reviewers and target journal editors. We will work with you to identify and navigate a path to publication aligned with your resources and needs.

The Cell Press Community pilot includes the life and health sciences journals, with the exception of our Partner society journals, Heliyon and STAR Protocols.
Q: How many journals can an author select within the Cell Press Community?
Authors are asked to select at least two journal options and all manuscripts are also considered for Cell Reports, iScience, and if it has the potential to impact clinical research and practice, Cell Reports Medicine.
Q: Can a paper be rejected from the Cell Press Community without formal peer review?
Yes. If the paper is not suitable for any of the participating journals, the paper will be returned to the author without formal peer review. If the author selection does not align with the recommendation of the editor but is suitable for another option within the Cell Press Community, the editor will contact authors to discuss potential paths forward.
Q: Is it OK to submit directly to one journal via the Cell Press Community?
No, if the paper is to be considered solely for one journal, it is recommended the manuscript be submitted via the journal specific system.
