I happened to have a chance to chat with a Japanese visitor today. I was surprised to hear that some Japanese suspect that the next disaster awaiting for them is the over-due eruption of Mt. Fuji.
I was so shocked to hear this that I googled... Well, you can decided for yourself what to believe. I know as a fact that Mount St. Helens' 1982 eruption was well forecast. Yes, the destruction was huge, but only limited lives were lost. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_St._Helens )
Will scientists be able to forecast the next eruption of Mr. Fuji? I hope so.
