Sitting in front of my laptop, my home phone rang. Who would be calling so early on a Sunday?
A woman's voice came through, a very controlled voice, more like an investigator's, in fact. I was told that some "unusual transaction" appeared on my credit union account. I was quick: "BUT, this is Sunday. You shouldn't be calling me..." Before she hang up, she advised me to contact my credit union as soon as possible. I said: "I will, first thing in the morning."
I did NOT thank her. I am usually not rude, unless provoked. After I hang up the phone, I had more fear: "How did they get my home phone number, which I protect by paying the phone company every month so that my home number is NOT listed in the yellow or white book."
I think there SHOULD be hell, because evil people need to go there for what they have done ...
PS. I was not going to be bothered by this incident, and even my son told me I should have hung up right away. However, I am glad I called my credit union, and I am glad the staff on the phone took my complain seriously. After a few minutes of investigation, it turned out that the caller was indeed from a security company. The credit union pays the company to alert its account holder if there is an "abnormal" transaction using his/her debit card. I normally don't use this Master debit card to order big item, but I did a day earlier. So, the system alarm was triggered, and I was contacted at 8 am on Sunday!
