近日翻阅美国KATRIN BECKER等三位物理学教授所合著的《现代弦论M论导引》（2007年出版，英文版），煌煌大作757页，共12章，以超对称性、对偶性、弦几何等为思想重心，并非像笔者曾译的《弦论揭秘》那样简明扼要的适合自学的弦论小百科全书。但此书推导精密，阐释充分，重点突出，插图美观，每章附有习题，可谓弦论发展史上罕见的大作。

  弦论是现代理论物理中的最激动和挑战性的领域之一。本书将读者从弦论基础，引导到弦论研究前缘的近期发展。本书以微扰弦论、世界面超对称性、时空超对称性、共形场论和杂化弦的基础作为开始，然后转向描述D膜、弦对偶和M论的现代发展。篇幅覆盖弦几何学（包括卡丘紧致化）和流量紧致化，以及在宇宙学和粒子物理学中的应用。用一章专述弦论中的黑洞和M理论，以及黑洞熵的微观起源。本书涵括了当代矩阵论、AdS/CFT对应及其推广。本书可作为研究现代弦论的研究生教材。

  作者以此书献给他们的父母，可见所费心血之大。且将国际微分几何大师、卡丘空间的证明者丘成桐的诗歌“时空统一颂”译为英文作为序言，可见作为诗人数学家的丘道长在西方的学术威望之大。这首英文译诗总体上保持了原诗的对称之美，且一定程度上兼顾了押韵，但也作了灵活处理，如“管测大块”，大块即大地，作者将其译为宇宙，就更妥帖好理解了。

  另外，丘成桐在与斯蒂维*纳迪斯合著的《内空间之形》（英文版2010年出版）一书中，将此诗作为序言之一。但此诗的这个英文版本显然更生硬些，且有失意，措辞不精准（数学物理化），可能是作为合著者的斯蒂维所为（落名时间不统一）。

  此诗到底如何，可以仁者见仁、智者见智。故推荐比较欣赏。
