研究生放长线VS加拿大高校的Co-operative Education
加拿大的大学教育别具特色，其中最引人注目的是Co-operative Education。
Co-operative Education虽然是针对大学本科生的，但是选择Co-operative Education的学生，至少需要5年才能大学毕业，有的要6年才能本科毕业。从学历看，第5年相当于中国研究生教育的第1年，第6年相当于中国研究生教育的第2年。
俺把加拿大本科教育的Co-operative Education手段引入到研究生培养。在研究生的三年期间，容许研究生到用人单位去参加为期2－3个月的培训和试工作，研究生还可以挣工资，这是多好的事啊。
可是有的网友却建议俺回家卖红薯，以后不要再招研究生了。俺感觉这样的网友好像是生活在校园的水井里，以为离开校园就学不到知识。俺还感觉到这样的网友好像是前朝遗老，给人以因循守旧，抱残守缺的感觉。
不是要强调理论联系实际吗？
让研究生到工作单位试工作两三个月有什么不好？
把研究生死困在校园，强迫他们写那么多毫无意义的文章，有什么用呢？
难道真要自我陶醉于 Stupid Chinese Idea （SCI）?
下面以UBC为例，说说Co-operative Education的好处。
根据俺的接触和了解，本科生如果选择了Co-operative Education，必须完成4次到公司实践工作，每次为期4个月。在Co-operative Education 阶段，学生能拿到很不错的薪水。加拿大BC省的最低工资为每小时8加元，而参加 Co-operative Education 的学生可以挣到每小时16加元，其中8加元是公司给的，另外8加元是加拿大政府给的。如果那学生真的毕业，刚开始工作还挣不到每小时16加元呢。
这就是Co-operative Education吸引人的地方。有些专业的学生也可以到美国或者欧洲参加Co-operative Education。我认识一个由福建移民到加拿大的学生，他到德国Co-operative Education了4个月，又到瑞士Co-operative Education了4个月，都挣工资，当地公司给一部分，加拿大政府给一部分。

Co-operative Education was introduced to Canada in 1957 at the University of Waterloo and has grown steadily, nationwide, since then. The University of British Columbia initiated co-operative education programs in 1985 and has a long-standing commitment to co-operative education.
The Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia offers ten undergraduate engineering specializations: chemical and biological, civil, computer, electrical, geological, integrated, materials, mechanical and mining; all of which are supported by the UBC Engineering Co-op Program. We also support Master of Software Systems and Master of Engineering degree programs with co-operative education integrated into the academic program. The UBC Okanagan School of Engineering offers three engineering specializations: civil, electrical and mechanical; which are also supported by the UBC Engineering Co-op Program.
