其实即使在中文科技论文中我也很少看到“必须”字样，可能是出于科研的严谨和客观。而must和have to 基本上是以人为主语的，前者表达主观意愿，后者表达客观强制。但是最近看到类似句子如下：

The operation temperature must be above 35 ℃.

    我理解作者想表达操作温度必须在35 ℃以上，但是这种用法是不正确的。Must be这种用法是虚拟语气，如It must be your fault. 这一定是你的错。

    所以这句话中的must可以换为语气弱一点的should，或者干脆用The temperature is required to be above 35 ℃.

    另外，也可以考虑使用ought to。

    以下是我查到的母语作者写作的科技论文出现的含有ought to的表达：

  Nevertheless, although clinical benefits should outweigh the small absolute risks, radiation doses from CT scans ought to be kept as low as possible and alternative procedures, which do not involve ionizing radiation, should be considered if appropriate.[1]

尽管如此，尽管临床益处应大于小的绝对风险，但CT扫描的辐射剂量须尽可能低，适当的话应考虑不涉及电离辐射的替代程序。

* 这句话中的ought to语气应该很强，因为辐射对人体的危害众所周知。

In particular a need to measure locally the adhesion properties and deformation processes of fibres in composites, with different chemical treatments, ought to be a focus of future research.[2]

特别是需要对不同化学处理的复合材料中纤维的粘附性能和变形过程进行局部测量，这应当是未来研究的重点。

*这句里的ought to语气没有那么强烈，应该是表达很大的可能性，译为“应当”可能比较合适。

The effect of droplets coalescence on the final morphology ought to be considered, even at low concentration of the dispersed phase, ϕ ⩾ 0.005.[3]

必须考虑液滴聚结对最终形态的影响，即使在分散相浓度较低的情况下（ϕ ⩾ 0.005）。

* 这句和之前说的操作温度的设定的那句话有些类似，由于对实验条件的严谨，此处用ought to是比较合适的。

总之，在科技论文中表达“必须”、“应当”，ought to是更推荐的词。
