据路透社4月12日报道，美国科学家成功利用4名天无阴道或阴道异常患者的自身细胞在实验室培育出“人造阴道”，并在这些女性身上完成移植手术。
4名接受试验的女性在2005年至2008年期间接受手术，当时年龄为13至18岁。她们都患有先天性无子宫无阴道综合症(MRKH)，这是种罕见的基因疾病，患者没有阴道、子宫或发育不全。因为患者无法行经，会导致经血在腹腔聚集，从而引起腹部疼痛。因此患者通常会在青少年时期寻求治疗。
